Human Resource Department: How Do I Set Up?

If you were given the task of setting up a new Human Resource Department in a small company where would you begin? Such a task would be extremely daunting, but not impossible, if you follow a few tips. To begin, you need to answer some basic questions:

Why do you want to set one up? What’s changed to make you or the organization believe that an HR department is needed now? What do you want the HR department to do? How will this function contribute to the success and bottom-line of the organization? Will it add value?

In other words, before you begin the task, you need to have a clear definition of the mission and goals of the department and secondly, what role you will play as “head” of the HR function. Once you have clear direction, there are some key “audit” issues that you need to focus on.

Do you have personnel files on all your employees? Are they current? Do you have all the legally required documentation? Do you have items in the files that don’t belong there?

Do you have policies and procedures? Are they up-to-date? Are they followed? Do you have an employee handbook? Do you have the right language in it? Have you inadvertently created a contract between you and your employees? Do you have policies dealing with ADA, EEO, FMLA, sexual harassment, workers’ compensation, safety, benefits, discipline, etc.?

Are you in compliance with state and federal regulations? Do you have a working knowledge of the law? Do you have all the required postings, forms, and documentation required by the respective governmental agencies? Are all the managers aware of their legal responsibilities and liabilities?

Are you recruiting and selecting the right people? Are you aware of the talent and skills needed to move your organization forward? Do you know where to find these people? Are you recruiting in a cost effective manner? Are your managers trained in interviewing techniques?

What kind of compensation plan do you have? Is it meeting the organization’s needs? Is it motivating your employees? Is it competitive and fair? How about your benefits? Are you getting the best coverage for your people at a price the employees and the organization can afford? Is your total compensation attractive enough to retain existing people and be an incentive to new people?

What’s it like working at your company? Are people productive and motivated? Are you looking at the indicators of a productive and motivated workforce (absenteeism, tardiness, turnover, grievances, high workers’ compensation rates, poor quality, missed deliveries, and poor productivity)?

What about your training? Are manager’s and employee’s skills current? Is training a “way-of-life”? Are you growing your people or do you have to go to the outside every time you need someone with a specialization? Are supervisors effectively managing their employees?

Are managers and employees kept informed? Do they know what’s going on? Is the grapevine the main source of communication? What are the sources of communication?

Obviously it is impossible to make a complete guide of things you need to consider when starting a new HR department in a small company. However, these are some of things you should consider. As you begin the process, get some professional help, whether through networking with peers, other organizations, or outside expertise. It is a big task, but one that is critical to the organization.

Futurists and Prescription for the Future

Many people read articles and books from futurists with interest. Some are fascinated by the borderline science fiction and reality blend. If you are one of those people you have probably noticed that the world of innovation and discovery is moving faster than ever before in human history. One book, which I recommend is:

“Prescription for the Future-How the Technology is Changing the Pulse of Global Health” Care-By Moore, Rey, Rollins.

It is written in conjunction with Anderson Consulting. It is interesting how many things in this book describing the future came to be and how many things did not. It was written in 1996 and predicted some great things and the ideals presented produced some great things, yet right after this book Columbia Health Care showed everyone the light. This book cited real life examples and successes and real life failures. In hindsight we see that the idealism was ahead of its time and the components, which did not fit were many of the things, which were not in the equation; Government regulations for one. Would I recommend this book? Yes just like I would recommend “Business at the Speed of Thought” or “Bill Gates Speaks,” yet I would not call “Prescription for the Future” the end all cure all for health care. It is interesting to hear President Bush speak on the health care issue of HIPPA stating that technology in IT will solve the regulatory hardship and indeed if you read any of the white papers from BitPipe, they will show his statement is correct. And we are seeing PDA wireless devices, which are HIPPA safe with encrypted 802.11 and the tele-robotics has surely become a common used tool for surgery half way around the globe. These trends will continue and the science and technology improve. Futurists predict it and money is flowing from VC to industry to make it so.

Recent technology has revolutionized the healthcare industry forever. I question many aspects of this book along with those methods recommended in a book like TQM, the new and the old cannot fully be integrated and sometimes the old must be destroyed to usher in the new, otherwise the you just get new buzzwords and minutia.

Most of the examples of case studies and real life successes in this book and there were a ton of them, should be studied and celebrated. I only recommend this book as a exercise in thought process and problem solving as it will help anyone in any industry to innovate, but I do not recommend this book to anyone wanting to revitalize an HMO or Hospital because it is now outdated; see how fast the world moves in 10-years. That statement in itself proves the book’s point. I see why it was so popular back in its hay day. I probably should have read it then when I bought the damn thing. If you are a professional, consolidator or in the Health care industry you should read it, with a salt shaker near by, if you are an innovator, inventor, thinker; or perhaps you wish to be, then go pick up a copy today. Read it chapter by chapter and think on it, you will be glad you did.

International Investment In Bulgaria Still Strong

The strong growth in the Bulgarian economy is continuing and this is emphasised by the confidence in the market shown by companies such as GE for example.

GE Commercial Finance Real Estate recently announced it will be acquiring a 50% stake of the Mall of Sofia. The Mall is an enormous trade, business and entertainment centre currently under construction in the heart of the capital city.

The acquisition is costing approximately EUR 37M and was made by a consortium of GE Commercial Finance Real Estate and Quinlan Private.

This investment can only encourage the current growing trend in the Bulgarian property market and indicates GE’s intentions to expand to the countries in Central and Eastern Europe.

Copenhagen Airports has announced it will increase their planned investments in Bulgaria’s Varna and Burgas airports from EUR 106M to EUR 140M by the end of 2008. The added investment is been used to bring the airport and its facilities up to date and to deal with the constantly increasing passenger traffic.

A corporate analysis on the airports of Varna and Burgas shows that unless urgent reforms are implemented at both facilities, the airports may see a decrease in expected traffic as soon as next season.

Tour operators are likely to redirect tourists to alternative destinations due to insufficient quality of services and this would have a knock-on effect for hotels with poor bed occupancy and a possible slowdown in the overall economic development of the region. Bulgaria’s top three airports at Sofia, Varna and Burgas have seen a 20% increase in passenger traffic.

New European low cost air-carrier Wizz Air has completed its first flight with destination Sofia.

Tickets for the flight started selling in Bulgaria three moths before, and 155 passengers were on board for the new beginning.

Wizz Air is now flying the Sofia-Budapest Route four times a week, and is looking to expand the number of flights out of other Bulgarian airports and increase the destination sites throughout Europe, focusing on the markets of Central and Eastern Europe. The airline took off at the end of May from the southern Polish city of Katowice, initially flying to Budapest, London’s Luton airport, Rome, Milan, Venice and Berlin.

In closing, the above investments in the real estate sector, infrastructure and travel reflect the growing confidence in the future of Bulgaria as a major player in the region and move the country closer to expected EU integration in 2007.

Do Consumers Need a Fast Mortgage Payment Coach?

Had you started your mortgage payments 30 years ago you could be just paying it off today. What if I tell you that a Fast Mortgage Payment Coach would help you to finish paying your mortgage in 15 instead of 30 years? With good coaching, your mortgage payments should have ended shortly after the Seoul South Korea Olympics. That’s about the same time that the famous Sprinter, Ben Johnson’s career as the fastest man in the world ended through choice of Coach. Then, the Olympic Gold Medalist, Carl Lewis, his arch rival, took over. From the Atlanta Georgia Olympics until today you would have made unnecessary payments on your mortgage. That’s about fifteen years or so. Like the slaves of XIXth Century America, FOR 15 YEARS, you went to work and handed huge chunks of your Pay cheques to your loving Banker!! In fact, you wait in line to give away these excess mortgage payments!

Around thirty years ago, April, 1977, all American eyes were glued to the TV sets night after night watching episodes of Roots. The author, Alex Haley re-created the agony and economic slavery of African Americans from the XVIIIth to early XXth Century. National Heroes like Dr. Martin Luther King a Super Coach, freed all America, “White and “Black” alike of that scourge. Unfortunately, unknown to you and many others, a financial slavery still shackles millions of American household budgets with mortgages debts, credit and loan payments. Economic Slavery is not an issue of race.

Please don’t shoot the messenger so fast…. The news is not good. So at least wait for the whole message. Fast forward to today!

Imagine this. You are driving behind your Friend on the City Streets when you observe Dollar Bills flying out the car window. You pick the dollars up planning to return them. When you arrive at your Friend’s house you tally the amount. That was actually $800.00 Dollars. Will you tell your Friend? Or will you keep the Money?

Would you coach your Friend to stop the regular, wasted, cash out flow, or would you refuse to help if you knew your Friend was negligent in securing HER/HIS Cash? Paying your Mortgage by following the Bank’s Plan is to give away that kind of money FREE to the same Lender. And you do this MONTH AFTER MONTH AFTER MONTH. The problem is you trust YOUR BANK to be your Coach and you usually have little faith and trust in any other professional from the mortgage business. But, you must first believe before you can trust. But at least the dialogue has started.

Could you ever imagine our kind and fatherly President George W. Bush in consultation with the elusive Osama Bin Laden, seeking coaching advice on how to win the war in Iraq? Well….. Hmmm. That is exactly what we do with our current Mortgage Payment Plans. We ask the Loans Officer to create our mortgage payment coaching plans for us. Then, we would go home determined that for the next 30 years (maybe 25 years with the bi-weekly mortgage payment), we would work our behinds off - AND OUR SPOUSE’S BEHIND TOO -to pay what the Banker said and how the Banker directed us to pay.

Don’t feel bad. All Mortgage Holders generally follow a similar coaching plan. Which Consumer is expected to have specialized knowledge on Mortgages anyway? Friends. This is a quiet fight for at least $250,000.00 of EXCESS PROFIT, hidden in your Mortgage Payments. A very wealthy Ex-Canadian, now American Citizen and finance Wiz Kid, Dr. Albert Lowry wrote about it in his book Hidden Profits in Your Mortgage. You don’t even know that you are engaged in a Catfight with your Banker for every Penny of those $250,000.00 of EXCESS PROFITS. So you, like the Great Olympics, Gold Medal Boxer Mohammed Ali, would go to Joe Frazier for coaching advice before their fight: This is the sports scene. It is played out in every mortgaged home in the United States of America and Canada too:

“Hey Joe”, says Mohammed Ali to Joe Frazier… “Gimme some Coaching Tips on how to win in that fight we will broadcast on TV next month!”

For a brief moment, Joe Frazier would think that Mohammed Ali was still suffering from too many Rope-a-Dope Bouts in the ring. But Joe, the crafty Boxer that he is, would advise his arch rival….. He’ll say:

“Well Mohammed It’s all about the diet…. That exercise stuff your Trainer talks about? Don’t worry about that so much!!!! Just listen to my advice very carefully. Be sure to follow a strict fluid Diet for the last TWO WEEKS before our fight. …. Take Fluids only, remember now F L U I D S - O N L Y!! Then the day before our fight, be sure to allow yourself a treat….. Take a generous helping of your favorite chocolate laxative. Two Hours before our fight, you must have no less than six of them…. ..OK, S I X!!”

Such would be Joe Frazier’s coaching advice to Mohammed Ali.

If Mohammed Ali had indeed taken too many blows to the head from Leon Spinks, he would follow Joe’s advice and we all know what the outcome would be.

That is a funny image from the Sport of Boxing, which, unfortunately summarizes how over 45% of all Consumers plan to pay their mortgage. Another 45% of Mortgage Consumers have no plan at all. No one told them that their Mortgage Payments should be the subject of a detailed plan. Now, you know you need a mortgage payment coach.

The Lender in a Mortgage is entitled to a fair return on the money. What you may think is that the 5% Interest charge should result in a fair profit of about $40,000.00 or so to the Lender if you follow a smart mortgage repayment plan. What you may not know is that the same 5% charge usually delivers an EXCESS PROFIT of the $250,000.00 on top of the $40,000.00 mentioned above. The $250,000.00 is EXCESS PROFIT which most Borrowers without a coach, now pay needlessly.

Consumers pay dearly from a lack of knowledge. For your mortgage repayment plans, you must seek out a specialized mortgage payment coach for an action plan to save yourself and your family years of unnecessary payments. In all matters of finance, knowledge is power.

Oh My Gosh - What Am I Going To Do?

Here I was, 59 years old, a mortgage, credit card debts, a J.O.B. that only allowed me to live pay check to pay check, no money in the bank or investments and I was approaching “RETIREMENT AGE”. Boy, was I in trouble. This was my thought when I woke up one morning. Depressing, isn’t it?

Some of you may ask “What did you do?” Well, first I tried to buy a business. I looked in the newspaper and saw an ad that read “Own your own business, investment required”. I called and spoke to a man and made an appointment. It sounded good. I could make a fortune cleaning offices at night. Not the best business in the world, but it would be mine. I paid him $12,579 and was supposed to start in a couple of months. Sounds good, right? WRONG. He went bankrupt and my money went with him.

Did that stop me? NO. I thought, try the internet. I filled out a form to start my own HOME BASED BUSINESS. I got a phone call. After a long deliberation (of about 5 minutes), I signed up. NO SELLING, NO INVENTORY, NO MLM (whatever that was), all I had to do was pay the man $2,000 and advertise. Sure, no problem. So I advertised. I delivered flyers and advertised in my local paper. Now I live in a small town, so the newspaper circulation is maybe 2. After almost a year of advertising, I got a cheque for $30. WOW. So much for that enterprise.

Next I tried being a distributor for an International Health & Wellness company. Again, I paid $2,000 and bought leads every month at $199/month. The only thing I had to do was maintain 100 PVP ($150/mo) and make phone calls. So I phoned, and phoned and phoned. Every night, after coming home from my J.O.B., I’d get on the phone and make 20 to 30 calls. NOT ONE SALE. Very discouraging.

Then one day I was surfing the net and happened to enter the immortal words “TYPE AT HOME”. I got page after page of websites. You know the one thing they all had in common, the word “AFFILIATES”. The light bulb went on. I had been doing this all wrong. Instead of buying a business, I should promote other people’s businesses. They actually pay for that. So I signed up to one and you know what happened, it lead me to another one and I signed up for that, and that lead me to another one and I signed up for that. Now don’t get me wrong, they weren’t all the same, one complimented the other. For example, the first site I signed up at built my website and taught me what to do with it and lead me to a site that would give me leads and that lead me to a site that could autorespond to my leads and that lead me to a site that would help me with my blog and that lead me to….well, you get the picture, and all these sites had AFFILIATE PROGRAMS.

Everything fell into place and I’m actually MAKING MONEY. Not only am I making money, I’m helping other people achieve their goals, but without the expense and hassle.

I’m now beginning a new journey and it’s AMAZING.

Online Home Business - Avoid the Scams

Time was, work at home opportunities consisted mainly of stuffing envelopes or taking in typing for the local law office. The Internet has changed all that. Now anyone with a computer and decent Internet connection can get in on the myriad work from home opportunities that the Web offers. Of course, along with the unique opportunities the Web has brought, a unique set of perils and pitfalls has come along with it.

So how does the average work at home mom (or dad) figure out what’s a good online income prospect? Face it, wherever money changes hands, there will be those that have their own definition of opportunity, and it’s mostly defined as how to separate you from your money. This article will help you to recognize the scams.

“I Made a Gazillion Dollars in Two Days - You Can Too!”

If you’ve been searching the Web for work at home, home business, or online business opportunities, you’ve seen claims like this. Don’t fall for them. Like any other business, an online business takes time to build up. It is true that you can start turning a profit quickly, even immediately, with an online business, because your startup and operating costs are usually lower than more traditional businesses. But it doesn’t happen overnight. If you’re looking for instant riches, stop reading right now and go buy lottery tickets.

Why Buy A Cow When Milk Is Free?

The single most valuable thing you need to get start working online is information. That’s why you’re reading this article, right? There are a lot of sites out there selling what is essentially free information. A good example is survey lists. Anybody can get lists of companies that will pay you to complete an online survey, so why should you pay somebody for a list? You’ll see articles that tell you not to pay up front for an opportunity. Hogwash. There are plenty of legitimate offers that require some initial investment. A good survey list site will not only furnish you with a list of companies, possibly saving you hours or even days of research, but they will also provide you with tools to make survey submissions and tracking payments quicker and easier. Worth $40 or $50 up front? Probably. Do your homework. There are lots of disreputable sites out there that will take your money, give you an old, outdated list, or some other worthless information, and that’s the last thing you’ll ever get. Forget about a refund. The good sites do the legwork for you, and support your efforts with tools and good advice. That’s worth some investment, especially when you’re first starting out.

Separating The Wheat From The Chaff

So how do you figure out what’s a good opportunity without wasting time and money? There are sites that investigate online opportunities for you. Club-Tech (http://www.club-tech.com/) is a good one. They’ve looked at dozens of online businesses and list the best ones in several categories. Sites like Club-Tech explain how different online businesses work, and allow you to do some side-by-side comparison of start-up costs and features.

Ultrasonic Cleaning: High-Tech Cleaning Services

Are you looking for innovative ways to increase your services and your profit margins? Ultrasonic cleaning services can be a way for your cleaning business to add another income stream that can be highly lucrative. How does ultrasonic cleaning work? The item being cleaned is immersed in an ultrasonic tank filled with water and a small amount of cleaning agent, and then agitated with high frequency sound for a brief time. The item is then rinsed in another tank filled with water and a small amount of rinse-agent, and then dried.

The underlying process is the creation of microscopic bubbles in the liquid. Agitation causes these bubbles to collapse with great force. This force produces shock waves up to 20,000 pounds per square inch. These waves then loosen and displace soil from the item being cleaned - this is called cavitation. Some of the advantages of ultrasonic cleaning include:

– Use of state of the art technology.

– Surfaces and cavities are cleaned without scratching, brushing or scraping.

– Oddly shaped and complex objects with tiny crevices and holes can be completely cleaned.

– It takes very short time for cleaning, normally just a few seconds to clean objects such as mini-blinds.

– The process is simple and uses fewer chemicals than in conventional cleaning.

– Cleaning is automated making it more efficient than the traditional tedious form of manual cleaning.

The types of items that can be cleaned with ultrasonic technology are almost limitless:

- Window blinds

- Fire restoration, mold restoration and disaster recovery contents

- Electronics

- Plastic and silk plants

- Patio furniture

- Light Diffusers

Cleaning electronic equipment has always been time-consuming and cumbersome. When using ultrasonics to clean electronics, the process becomes efficient and can be very profitable for your cleaning business. However, there is a lot of confusion about how the process affects electronic equipment.

Many people believe that electronic equipment cannot be placed in water. While it’s true that you should never place electronic devices into water that are still plugged in, use of the proper solution to clean and proper drying techniques allows items to be cleaned and restored using ultrasonics. With the proper equipment and training, there is no damage to electronics being submerged in water.

Many people also believe that ultrasonics will loosen solder joints and the item will not work properly. This thought is based on the theory that ultrasonics shakes off debris with vibrations. The cleaning process is called cavitation, which forms and collapses tiny bubbles - a safe and effective cleaning method.

Some people don’t believe the ultrasonic cleaning process works. This is usually due to a lack of understanding of how the process works. Plus many people have never experienced the results firsthand. If you invest in the proper equipment and perform the process correctly, ultrasonic cleaning is not only effective, but actually reduces cleaning time and save tons on labor costs.

Ultrasonics is not just for cleaning small items such as jewelry. Ultrasonics can clean and restore items such as window blinds, light diffusers, small electric appliances, silk plants, and much more. Just think of all the homes and office buildings with mini-blinds and silk plants. The possibilities are endless for your cleaning business.

Adding ultrasonic cleaning services to your cleaning business should not be entered into lightly, as there is a large investment in equipment and training. However with proper training and an effective marketing plan, ultrasonic cleaning can not only be another service you provide to your clients, but a great added income stream for your cleaning business.

Make Money Online: Three fast ways to Make Money Online

Making money online may be impossible for some people, but not
for you. Through this article you will learn how to do it fast
and easy. So be ready with your bank account, because you will
earn a lot of money if you follow these tips.

The first thing that you should do is to increase your website
traffic, because you will have more chances of sales or adsense
clicks, being visited by more people and more chances to earn
money online.

For this you should make as many traffic exchanges as you can,
since this will allow you to obtain more visits from other
websites. One important thing is to know the type of website
traffic you have in order to decide what kind of tools you may
offer to those visitors.

Other way to increase website traffic to make money online
consists in the promotion of a newsletter signup page, which you
should send later a serial of automated emails promoting your
product or affiliate products.

The second thing that you can do to earn money online is to
carry out a SEO or search engine optimization, a key term used
in the web today. This system will allow you to obtain more
qualified visitors to your own site when you get a better
ranking on the net while they look for something just surfing on
the bigger search engines.

Through better positions of your own website in the search
engines, like MSN, Yahoo or Google, you may also make more money
on line selling and promoting any product you want to launch to
the market. The important thing for this is to have current and
good content on your website. Write your own articles and
publish them in different articles directories like this one you
are reading right now.

To earn money online, the third thing that you can do is to
start a newsletter or ezine. It does not matter if your web site
is large or small, just post the code for newsletters that
different websites have onto your own web site.

For example, Google offers “Free Mailing Groups”, an
auto-responder system used to submit a newsletter to your
subscription list. There are various free scripts that carry out
this function. In other words, through this way you will allow
people to subscribe for your newsletter or ezine with the latest
news you will have about your products and promotions.

A free gift might be absolutely necessary in order to motivate
your visitor to give you his - her name an email address.

Can a Home Internet Business really make upwards of $50,000 a month?

I can tell you that my online business isn’t even making $10,000
a month (yet) but I’ve only been going a year and going well!

Judging from the way my internet entrepreneurial sense and
knowledge has developed since I started out as a raw online
marketer, my online endeavors should be bringing in no less than
$25,000 by the end of the year.

Therefore, the answer is a resounding YES - it is definitely
possible to earn in excess of $50,000 per month from a home
online business.

Unfortunately, for you and me, we are not all blessed with the
internet marketing brain of a Corey Rudl who I’m sure would have
agreed with this assessment - read the full Corey Rudl interview
here - http://www.internetbusiness.co.za/corey-rudl-interview.php

So, is there hope for us mere mortals?

Well the good news is that we have as good a chance of making it
big in our own internet businesses as the next guy.

However, despite most of us not having been blessed with
supernatural internet marketing skills, as I mentioned above,
there is a lot of hope for us.

There is one trait, though that you will need to achieve online
success and that is the ability to learn, copy and implement (or
is that 3 traits?).

What this means is that, for you and I, we shouldn’t try and
re-invent the wheel but rather learn from the masters like Corey
Rudl who started his internet endeavors in 1994 and built a
multi-million dollar internet empire.

Emulating the proven methods and strategies will save you a lot
of time as well as keep you from becoming demoralized and
eventually quitting.

So, even though it’s a safe bet to say that upwards of $50,000 a
month can be generated form a home internet business, my bet is
that many, many internet entrepreneurs are battling along making
a paltry few dollars, month in and month out.

Therefore, I urge you not to fall into the trap of eking out a
few dollars a day and thinking that tomorrow is the day you will
hit the jackpot.

Well the reality is that it will never happen unless your
business has been professionally researched, designed and
structured to attack and capture your target market.

There are so many facets that go into making an online venture
successful that it would be difficult for the inexperienced
internet entrepreneur to get it right in the short term.

For instance the product you sell has to be of a high quality,
competitively priced and in demand by a large enough market.

Then your website design needs to portray professionalism, it
needs to be optimized for search engines and the content needs
to be innovative sales copy.

Also, it is very important for your online business to be fully
automated not only to give it credibility but also to relieve
you of mundane tasks of e-mailing your list which is a vital
component in itself.

Not only do the above all contribute to the overall success of
the online business, but should one be lacking or below par the
success of the business will be severely compromised.

Therefore if you are serious about making $50,000 a month, don’t
mess about with hopeless schemes and promises, tap into the
minds of the true internet gurus for real online success.
